Welcome
to the World's Largest Catfish...
Positioned next to the Red River in the city of Wahpeton, North Dakota resides "Wahpper" - the World's Largest Catfish. Measuring in at 40 feet in length, 12 feet tall, and 5,000 pounds, "Wahpper"
was constructed to call attention to the excellent catfishing in the
Red River - some even call Wahpeton "The Catfish Capital of the North".
World's Largest Catfish Fun Facts...
Fact #1: During the "Great Flood of 1997", the Red River submerged the
pedestal that the World's Largest Catfish sits on - making it look as if it was swimming.
Fact #2: The same artist that created "Wahpper" also created "Salem Sue" - the World's Largest Holstein Cow in New Salem, North Dakota.
Fact #3: The World's largest "real" catfish, known as the Mekong Giant Catfish, weighed 646 pounds and was 9 feet long. It was captured in the Mekong River in northern Thailand, May 1, 2005.
